Synopsis
The Andaman Sea, to the west of Thailand, overflows with picturesque islands and bays where fishing is often the only resource. In Phang Nga Bay on Bamboo Island, the fish on the village aquafarm are fed on wild mussels and small mackerel. In the bay offshore from Phuket, sea gypsies dive down 50 meters with a spear to catch groupers, barracudas and sea leeches. Over the last few years Phuket has become one of the busiest sport fishing destinations in Asia. The fishermen come from all over the world to battle with swordfish, sailfish, dorado and local wahoo, near the Racha Islands or on safari for several days to the Similan or Andaman Islands. Today all types of sea fishing in the Andaman Sea is threatened by commercial fishing methods, therefore the fishermen have to go further afield.
