Synopsis
Bamako, Mali. From 1950 to nowadays, Malick Sidibé is a tireless neighbourhood photographer. The whole town went through his studio, and all the 1960’s parties were frozen with his photography. In the early 1990s, his three hundred thousand negatives were discovered. Malick ends up in a snap at the front of the international art scene, from New York to Tokyo, via Sweden (Hasselblad Photography Prize winner in 2003) and Venice (he won the «Golden Lion» in 2007). This documentary intends both to discover this fascinating work and to offer a look behind the scenes of this human adventure.
