Synopsis
Millions of Africans are affected by hunger, but it is not a fatality, it can be overcome. Fighting hunger however, is not simple. Sending large quantities of food or lending large sums of money are not viable solutions in the long term. The root causes need to be addressed: poverty, underdevelopment and lack of education. In Malawi, the 12th poorest country in the world, initiatives are multiplying: irrigation with the help of very simple technology, crop diversification, cookery classes, the treatment of malnutrition in hospital dispensaries, the distribution of school meals. So many examples of hope for an Africa where development policies need to be completely revised following past failures and faced with the extensive rise of the AIDS pandemic.
