Synopsis
Since 1960, religious practice in Quebec is in a state of collapse. Today, young Quebecers are largely ignorant of the different religions and traditions. In this climate of perdition of religious culture, young people are joining new Christian communities such as Marie-Jeunesse. The Church is changing greatly to become a supportive force. This is the case with the Quebec IXTHUS, initiator of a cultural revival via music and theatre, or Point de Rue in Trois-Rivières which offers the homeless the chance to learn a trade. Recognizing the need for spirituality, the Ministry of Education will launch, in September 2008, a course on religious culture focused on knowledge rather than belief. A test conducted among 4,000 students showed that the teaching of different religions arouses young people’s curiosity to rediscover religious traditions and helps combat intolerance.
