Synopsis
Resolving the problem of the minorities is one of the conditions of Turkey joining Europe. The problem of religious minorities is not well understood. The Republic set up by Ataturk calls itself secular, impartial and tolerant, but is it really? In a country where 98% of the population is Muslim the number of women wearing veils is constantly increasing. In regions far from the modern and tolerant Istanbul, minorities, in particular Christians complain of discrimination, non respect of human rights and say that Islam is racist. They emigrate to Istanbul or nearer Europe. Yet when we take a closer look, Turkish Islam is very different from the Islam of the Arab countries. Women, veiled or not, identify more with Europeans. This film presents a captivating journey from Istanbul to Southern Anatolia. Along the way we encounter Syriac Christians, Alevis and Sufis, modern followers of old humanist prophets.
